Can't process rtf format

Q. I am getting this error every time I try to process my recently translated MS Word file. I saved it as an RTF document and tried again, with the same results. I even removed all the formatting and still it would not process the file.

A. Another dark-magic type of cure is to copy all the text in the borked document, hit Ctrl-N for a new doc, and paste. Then save that one and try working on it. Sometimes the internals of a Word file get so messed up Word can't fix it, but copying the content into a fresh empty vessel sometimes works.

Editing TMs

Q. I am trying (unsuccessfully) to do a search and replace on a TM. I go to Maintenance, Search and Replace, type the words into Find What, Replace With, OK, Begin Search... and the results have nothing to do with whatever is typed into Find What.

A. As I understand it, you first have to use Filter. Suppose you want to change each occurrence of "black" to "white" in your target language: Click on Filter, Add, enter *black* (with the * wildcard character before and after), click OK.

At this stage I usually set the "Translation units processed at a time" to 1 (but don't press Enter). Click on Begin Search. If and when it finds an occurrence, click on "Find and Replace", enter black and white in the appropriate boxes (no * this time), click OK.

Click on Change, then on Translation Units in Current List. Check it is OK, then click Next, and continue (optionally this time with "Change all Translation Units").

Not very intuitive, but can be a very useful facility. (Reply by Peter Linton, dated 10/13/2006)

33353 End of paragraph not found

Q. What to do?

A. Simply add the missing 'end-of-paragraph': press Enter after the segment in question. This often happens before a section break or similar items.
